I was thinking about this the other day! In the sense that as a society, we are being taught that consistency is good, being sporatic (especially with our diets) is bad. But is there such a thing as being TOO consistent? TOO stuck in a routine? For me, it's a resounding yes, and the only way to break free is to MAKE MYSELF do something differently. Try something new, PROVE that change is not bad!

Great post :)

I think that the easiest way to get out of bad routines is to add good routines to crowd them out.

I've been terrible about eating on the run lately, so I have taken to lighting candles at dinner every night--its a small thing, but it makes dinner seem a little bit special and the lighting and blowing out are nice ways to bookend the meal.

I definitely have some negative routines in my life, but the one I am working to break right now is checking my (work) Blackberry first thing when I wake up. It tends to put me in a bad frame of mind while getting ready in the morning, and I want to start my day thinking positively. So that's this week's goal - no checking work email until I am on the train.

hahaha, I'm not a Steeler lady, but I love my routine! I get so anal about it, that it's almost bad, especially in winter. I don't know, something about the shorter days...it helps keep me sane.

I definitely follow a negative routine where I feel I HAVE to eat at a certain time, certain meals. This causes alot of stress and missing out on plans b/c it doesn't fit in with my structure. I need to learn how to break out of this!

Yea for breaking out of your rut, Rose!! I have a bad habit of eating off of paper towels instead of plates. Actually, I have a lot of bad routines... it's easier to make small, gradual changes over time than trying to totally overhaul a routine overnight.
