Making Time for Food

10 Nov

Today’s lunch is the epitome of a lazy one. I went to the deli to buy a tuna wrap (my favorite, swoon) and when I saw the mile-long line, I decided to buy a pre-made wrap instead. (This is a reminder to me that I must always make time to prepare my own food!)

It wasn’t anything spectacular, but it wasn’t awful either. Pretty filling.

I also sort of splurged on these.

Sun Chips will be the end of me. I know it. I have been buying them too much. I’m pretty good about sticking to the serving size though, so that makes me feel slightly better. But still – this meal is totally missing fruits/veg. I will make up for that tonight, for sure.

Oh, and guess what else? A coworker stopped by to tell me that my picture was in the paper yesterday.

I wonder if they could have gotten any closer to my face??? :) This picture was taken during our berry picking adventure with Rob and Kate over the summer. I forgot that I had sent it, along with many others, to the b Daily. Looks like they decided to run it yesterday! How fun.

Making Time for Food

This lunch and some of my meals as of lately have reminded me that I haven’t been making as much time for food. I find myself wrapped up in homework in the evenings, then some TV watching and then before I know it – it’s time for bed, and I haven’t made anything for lunch. Then I just go to bed and figure, “It’ll be more convenient for me to buy something at the deli tomorrow.”

Well. This logic is flawed. It’s a double whammy. It hurts not only my well being but my wallet too.

The new plan? Make lunch everyday for a week. Or at least pre-make it on Sundays. I am pretty good about doing this most days, but I want to recommit in a more serious way. I want to get those fruits and veggies packed into my lunch again.

Do you ever find yourself taking the easy way out when it comes to food?

    that’s awesome!

Sun chips will be the death of me too. They are addicting.

Great goal! I don’t get lazy so much as I try to save money at the grocery store by holding off on my next trip until everything from my last week’s trip is gone. I need to remind myself that $10 spent on red peppers and carrots is really $10 spent on snacks that will prevent spending money on doctor visits and new, bigger jeans in the future!

Great picture! Instead of buying food, I always think in terms of money. How much could I get at the grocery store and how many meals can I make from that instead of buying lunch? I tend to make a few big things over the weekend and portion them out, or plan dinners that are enough for leftovers!

I’m still trying to find balance with healthy lunch foods.

I got some flatouts to try with hummus/avocado. i also fall back to pbj’s alot. pbjs you can make a head of time. try making your lunch at night so you’re not in a rush in the morning.

when i was cooking dinner at night, while dinner was cooking i would take the time to pkg up 2 days worth of lunches – saves time!

I haven’t been making time for food either. I need to get back into the habit of packing my lunch at night and planning dinners ahead. I’ve been grabbing whatever I can find in the fridge in the morning and I haven’t been very happy with my lunches! This leads to grabbing extras at work too often!

congrats on the pic!!! how cool :)

Yeah, it’s so easy to just NOT do it, but I try to anyways. I used to make a big batch of something on the weekends for lunches during the week and that definitely helps – when you remember to do it.

    you can do it!! ;)

    Great pic! Congrats!

I take the easy way out about 1/2 the time. That’s life.

    Awesome press coverage!

As for the time for food? Why do you think I do pastas and mix-ins so often? I can just throw it together!

Whenever I go straight home after work instead of going to the gym I feel too lazy to cook so I’ll have cereal or granola for dinner. When I go to the gym after work and home for dinner I have more energy to cook.

You totally read my mind. I have been taking the easy way out the past few days and now I am ready to get back in the kitchen. I think I need a break from cooking sometimes.

Congrats on being in the paper!

Love that pic of you :)
Well, I used to do that, all the time, taking the easy way out! Nowadays I try to be a little more thoughtful and try new things. It’s hard sometimes because I don’t know how to cook but I give it a try anyways!

Any word on the X-ray yet? I’m totally blog stalking and need to get a life.

Cute picture!!! I always make my lunch the night before. It is so much less pricey that way. If you force yourself for a few weeks, it will just become second nature. Just try to remember that you will be really happy the next day :)

I definitely relate. I get lazy about this all the time. I always feel better when I cook my own food from scratch. Lately, I’ve been working on trying to keep my meals as normal as possible even if the food at them is purchased: at a table, with silverware and enough time to enjoy what I’m eating. I find it easier to get back in the swing of cooking things if I still remember how to eat properly.

    That picture is great, Rose.

I don’t usually buy my lunch, but I bring a lot of frozen foods to work . I need to just prepare the night before, but it’s so hard!

I almost always pack my lunch from home, because I just don’t have the money to spend on eating out everyday. Even though it means hauling all the reusable containers with me all day, it’s still worth it. Sometimes my lunch will be simpler than others, because I have less time, but it’s all good.
