In Bloom

7 Oct

This is a story about friendship and love.

It started on Thursday night, when Cat and I decided that sleeping could wait – that we were too excited to get on the road.

We left around midnight and drove west.

Bloom 001

We got to Kelly’s somewhere close to 7 a.m., exhausted and hungry. Kelly was waking up for the day and got some ingredients ready for toast, which is what we had.

  Bloom 005

So we could all eat at the same time, we threw the toast into the oven – old-fashioned style.

Bloom 015

After more than 12 hours in the car in one day, the ability to move and pose was something I cherished.

Bloom 012

Including seeing my best friends in the whole world :)

Bloom 010

The toast was warm and toasty. And the peanut butter was natural and crunchy.

Bloom 017

Kelly had to do something for school in the morning, so Cat and I promptly passed out from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. After we woke up, we were hungry again and went to one of Kelly’s favorite places – Laughing Planet.

Bloom 018

This began the journey of the most delicious food I’ve eaten in one town in one weekend.

Very fun place.

Bloom 019

Fulfilling (and delicious) burrito with chicken, black beans and jack cheese on a whole wheat tortilla.

Bloom 021

The food filled us up, but we also got pretty tired. We decided to just chill in that night and order some pizza and talk.

We started by taking Kelly’s dog Nike out for some fresh air…

Bloom 022

Kelly and I shared a white pizza with mushrooms, and we made our own spinach to put on top.

Bloom 025

My plate. Many bread products in one day. I am not ashamed.

Bloom 028

The next morning, Cat thought it best to climb the tree outside Kelly’s apartment.

Bloom 031

I thought it best to drink coffee below.

Bloom 035

We all thought it best to go to the Runcible Spoon for breakfast, which was ranked on Esquire’s favorite food places list at one point.

Bloom 038

Bloom 039

Cat ordered a mega mimosa.

Bloom 047

I ordered Eggs Benedict.

Bloom 075

Cat ordered the same.

Bloom 077

And in the bathroom of the restaurant was a bathtub with a fish.

Bloom 084

Tell me this is not the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever seen.

Bloom 067

We spent the rest of the day going from shop to shop throughout Bloomington.

We started at Boxcar Books, where I sat in a chair:

Bloom 102

The moved to Global Goods, where Cat bought a heart box to match her coasters.

Bloom 105

And I bought something that excited me.

Bloom 107

A new scarf!

Bloom 108

Kelly bought a new hat, and James watched us with all our goods.

Bloom 111

At Athena, Cat and Kelly were in a didgeridoo band.

Bloom 116

And we told Kelly and James to look British.

Bloom 127

I tried to be as small as my bags, but it didn’t work.

Bloom 132

And Kelly finally bought the singing bowl she’s had her eye on for months.

Bloom 134

Later that night, we decided to experiment with Turkish food.

Bloom 145

We were sad not to get to sit on the floor, but we were still happy to be together.

Bloom 147

I ordered a white bean soup that was delicious.

Bloom 157

… and then a stuffed portabello mushroom cap with some tasty tasty side salad.

Bloom 160

Turkish tea!

Bloom 154

After dinner, we went back to Kelly’s and just hung out there again and talked. None of us were really feeling like going out; we just wanted to talk and talk and talk. And why not just stay at your house where you can change into sweats and just be, right?

That night the most amazing thing happened. We ordered a dozen cookies from a place in town that actually delivers cookies. To your door. With milk.

Oh, and did I mention it was 3 a.m?

… and you get to order four different types.

Swoon. Swoon. Swoon.

Bloom 171

The next day, we worked off those cookies with some light walking through the woods. James took pictures of the three of us that you will all see eventually.

Bloom 175

Cat tried to capture clouds in my sunglasses.

Bloom 180

I was seriously jealous of Kelly’s cool shades.

Bloom 182

And then we climbed a scary tower.

Bloom 199

Kelly wasn’t scared.

Bloom 195

James and Nike weren’t scared.

Bloom 196

I wasn’t supposed to be scared.

Bloom 194

But I was actually terrified.

Bloom 197

And felt much relief when I got back down to the bottom.

Bloom 198

On the way out of the park, we found a license plate that summarized the weekend.

Bloom 202

Hi, Friends.

It was good to see you.

I miss you already.

Love,

Rose

    Such a cool post. :)

The pizza looks amazing, so do the eggs! Yum.

I LOVE the bathtub with the fish ahaha

Is the hat your friend is wearing the one she bought? If it is, it looks really good on her. And it’s cute!

I’ve never tried Turkish food. Sounds good though.

Ordering cookies at 3am? And they deliver it to your house? That is the most amazing and dangerous thing I’ve ever heard. Dangerous because I would order them all the time. Were they good? I bet they were. :P

I’m glad you had a great time!

Aaahhh Bloomington!!! That just made my day to pics of my old college town. How I miss thee! I seriously miss Bloomington pizza, I am guessing by the pic you had Mother Bear’s but I could be wrong. It has been a while.

That was a super cute post!! I’m glad you had a blast with your friends!
I love how you left at mid night because you couldn’t wait, love.
Cookies and milk delivery? Could that not be the best invention ever?? It’s one of those “why didn’t I think of that?” inventions. Whoever thought it up is my hero, one for inventing it and two for not opening any near my house because I would be the size of a house.

  12. Katherine October 7, 2009 at 3:36 pm #

That looks like such a fun trip! It makes me want to jump in the car and go on a roadtrip with my friends!

This post is amazing! It seems like you had the best time with your friends. I love Kelly and her tie-die, beads, and tapestry on the wall of her house. You guys had some good looking food too :D

Is that cookie place called “Insomnia Cookies” or something? We have it at Penn State–it’s usually in college towns! Either way, they look delicious.

So happy you had fun Rose!
