In Bloom
7 Oct
This is a story about friendship and love.
It started on Thursday night, when Cat and I decided that sleeping could wait – that we were too excited to get on the road.
We left around midnight and drove west.
We got to Kelly’s somewhere close to 7 a.m., exhausted and hungry. Kelly was waking up for the day and got some ingredients ready for toast, which is what we had.
So we could all eat at the same time, we threw the toast into the oven – old-fashioned style.
After more than 12 hours in the car in one day, the ability to move and pose was something I cherished.
Including seeing my best friends in the whole world
The toast was warm and toasty. And the peanut butter was natural and crunchy.
Kelly had to do something for school in the morning, so Cat and I promptly passed out from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. After we woke up, we were hungry again and went to one of Kelly’s favorite places – Laughing Planet.
This began the journey of the most delicious food I’ve eaten in one town in one weekend.
Very fun place.
Fulfilling (and delicious) burrito with chicken, black beans and jack cheese on a whole wheat tortilla.
The food filled us up, but we also got pretty tired. We decided to just chill in that night and order some pizza and talk.
We started by taking Kelly’s dog Nike out for some fresh air…
Kelly and I shared a white pizza with mushrooms, and we made our own spinach to put on top.
My plate. Many bread products in one day. I am not ashamed.
The next morning, Cat thought it best to climb the tree outside Kelly’s apartment.
I thought it best to drink coffee below.
We all thought it best to go to the Runcible Spoon for breakfast, which was ranked on Esquire’s favorite food places list at one point.
Cat ordered a mega mimosa.
I ordered Eggs Benedict.
Cat ordered the same.
And in the bathroom of the restaurant was a bathtub with a fish.
Tell me this is not the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever seen.
We spent the rest of the day going from shop to shop throughout Bloomington.
We started at Boxcar Books, where I sat in a chair:
The moved to Global Goods, where Cat bought a heart box to match her coasters.
And I bought something that excited me.
A new scarf!
Kelly bought a new hat, and James watched us with all our goods.
At Athena, Cat and Kelly were in a didgeridoo band.
And we told Kelly and James to look British.
I tried to be as small as my bags, but it didn’t work.
And Kelly finally bought the singing bowl she’s had her eye on for months.
Later that night, we decided to experiment with Turkish food.
We were sad not to get to sit on the floor, but we were still happy to be together.
I ordered a white bean soup that was delicious.
… and then a stuffed portabello mushroom cap with some tasty tasty side salad.
Turkish tea!
After dinner, we went back to Kelly’s and just hung out there again and talked. None of us were really feeling like going out; we just wanted to talk and talk and talk. And why not just stay at your house where you can change into sweats and just be, right?
That night the most amazing thing happened. We ordered a dozen cookies from a place in town that actually delivers cookies. To your door. With milk.
Oh, and did I mention it was 3 a.m?
… and you get to order four different types.
Swoon. Swoon. Swoon.
The next day, we worked off those cookies with some light walking through the woods. James took pictures of the three of us that you will all see eventually.
Cat tried to capture clouds in my sunglasses.
I was seriously jealous of Kelly’s cool shades.
And then we climbed a scary tower.
Kelly wasn’t scared.
James and Nike weren’t scared.
I wasn’t supposed to be scared.
But I was actually terrified.
And felt much relief when I got back down to the bottom.
On the way out of the park, we found a license plate that summarized the weekend.
Hi, Friends.
It was good to see you.
I miss you already.
Love,
Rose

I loved this post. It made me miss my best girlfriends who all live plane rides away
Glad you had such a wonderful weekend!
I love this sweet story!
LOVE this post. You are too cute.
Such a cool post.
The pizza looks amazing, so do the eggs! Yum.
I LOVE the bathtub with the fish ahaha
Is the hat your friend is wearing the one she bought? If it is, it looks really good on her. And it’s cute!
I’ve never tried Turkish food. Sounds good though.
Ordering cookies at 3am? And they deliver it to your house? That is the most amazing and dangerous thing I’ve ever heard. Dangerous because I would order them all the time. Were they good? I bet they were.
I’m glad you had a great time!
Aaahhh Bloomington!!! That just made my day to pics of my old college town. How I miss thee! I seriously miss Bloomington pizza, I am guessing by the pic you had Mother Bear’s but I could be wrong. It has been a while.
This post was so simple & fun, I love all the pictures… and your stories.
awwwwww what a cute post. Love how much you <3 your friends. Love the picture of you trying to be as small as your bag- made me laugh for 5 minutes. Lots of yummy eats too- my favorite is the Eggs Benedict…looks so good!
Good eats + great friends = awesome weekend! Loved reading this post Rose!
Glad that you had a good time Rose! That breakfast place looks like a hit. Glad you’re back
I love this post
what a fun weekend.
That was a super cute post!! I’m glad you had a blast with your friends!
I love how you left at mid night because you couldn’t wait, love.
Cookies and milk delivery? Could that not be the best invention ever?? It’s one of those “why didn’t I think of that?” inventions. Whoever thought it up is my hero, one for inventing it and two for not opening any near my house because I would be the size of a house.
That looks like such a fun trip! It makes me want to jump in the car and go on a roadtrip with my friends!
i absolutely adore this recap! and the bathroom with the fish. and the benny. and you being as tiny as your bags. and COOKIE DELIVERY! with milk! youre adorable.
This is such a cute post! Those fish in the bathroom are the most random thing ever!
An excellent summary indeed! kelly and i miss your smiling face already…pics will be up soon..until next time.
aha yes i almost forgot- Mother Bear’s Pizza is the best in town, and the cookies were from Baked!- another fine establishment.
Oh Rose, what a wonderful post. Nostalgia all the way, baby, I wish all my best friends were in the same place at the same time. My kind of weekend
so glad you enjoyed it.
P.S. Fish, in bathtub, in bathroom of a restaurant… I am laughing out loud.
It looks like you had an absolutely fabulous time! (and sister – i am growing more and more jealous of that hot head of hair of yours! so cute!)
Nike is a boxer right? I heart him!
This post is amazing! It seems like you had the best time with your friends. I love Kelly and her tie-die, beads, and tapestry on the wall of her house. You guys had some good looking food too
Is that cookie place called “Insomnia Cookies” or something? We have it at Penn State–it’s usually in college towns! Either way, they look delicious.
So happy you had fun Rose!
Is that really a pint of mimosa??? Sign me up! It looks like an amazing weekend. Thanks again so much for posting my guest post!
Oh Rose! I miss you both so much already that I am shedding a few tears reading this… oh why can’t we be together always?!?! It was truly a wonderful weekend and I hope it happens again soon and then over and over again for all time.
