An Ode to a Best Friend

We all have them. Those soul mate kind of friends. The kind of people you meet and think, this person’s going to shape my life.

I met one of those soul friends six years ago, and today is her birthday. Cat is not only my soul roomie for life but my confidant, my surrogate sister, my partner-in-crime, my counselor and most of all – my best friend.

Yesterday, I was talking to a friend about Cat and I’s relationship. He said that our friendship allows us to be super happy – with “levels of happiness that even the government can’t control.” I like that. I would most certainly agree.

Happy Birthday, Cat! Hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane.

There are many things you do with a best friend.

You enjoy the finer things in life, like good wine from little bottles.

And body-slamming into the late hours of the night.

You take every opportunity to wear funny hats.

And you always, always rock out.

You think every experience is two thumbs up.

And you never forget to dance the night away.

Or put out fires together.

Or make phone calls to people you love together.

Or visit each other’s new homes.

There are some things you do that can’t be explained.

But most of all, you just really get each other, you know?

What’s more is that you have another great friend that makes this a trio.

And the three of you have this bond that’s just not going anywhere.
