How could I forget it was St. Patrick’s Day?

17 Mar

Consider me guilty as charged today. I woke up and totally forgot it was St. Pat’s Day. How fun would it have been to make green oatmeal? A missed opportunity. Ah, well. Next year.

As soon as I realized it was 3.17, I started thinking back to my trip to Ireland nearly four years ago, in the summer of 2005. I was in college then and studying at Cambridge in England. My Irish friend Amber had taken a weekend trip on her way to England, and she before I knew it, she became my travel agent. She helped me set everything up and before long I was en route to Ireland for a long weekend alone – my first “vacation” solo.

However, I didn’t go to Dublin. My destination? The town of Liscannor, and more specifically The Cliffs of Moher.

There really wasn’t much to Liscannor. It was just this street.

I was staying 6 miles away from The Cliffs, so I hiked up the top of the mountain to catch the view.

Check out my “Cambridge University” sweatshirt. I was so geeky.

Did you know that from the top of the Cliffs to the water is a mile long? That’s a far drop. You better believe I didn’t lay near the edge like this:

Being in Ireland was a whirlwind (I arrived on Friday, left on Sunday morning), but it was one of those trips I will always remember.

Since I missed my chance at green oatmeal this morning, I decided to improvise with some leftovers + spinach wrap.

Before wrap:

I am slowly checking off items from my to-do list. And by “items,” I mean one.

I ran 5 miles around 11 a.m. today in 55 minutes plus some change. I incorporated three aerobic intervals, pushing myself a little harder for 2 minutes each time. I ran the “out and back” near my apartment, and to be honest – I was bored. Not only was I little bored, I was also exhausted. I kept thinking that if this was the day of the 1/2 marathon, I’m not sure I’d make it.

I guess every run can’t be great!

Now I’m off to an afternoon of READING. I have to go pick Bill up at school :)

You’re right – every run isn’t the best, but that’s okay! That’s what I’ve been trying to tell myself lately, too.

I have been there! I didn’t go to Dublin either! We just did the southwest coast and it was AMAZING! And didn’t have green oats? Ummm, did you not have thin mints on your oatmeal this morning? Totally a green box. It was festive!

Oh Rose! I’ve been there too! It’s so beautiful! Dublin is fun for shopping so I hope you get to go back.
Green oats tomorrow, maybe? Extend the holiday?

Did you know “they” re-did the Clifs of Moher and made it more touristy??? I was just there for St. Pattys Day in 2007. They took away that ledge!!!!!!!!!! You can’t get anywhere NEAR that ledge – they built a wall blocking off that area :( I was sad. I was hoping to get a pic on that ledge with my then bf (now hubby). *sigh* I was SO upset b/c I raved about how cool that ledge was to my hubby and we were so excited to see it. bah! eh, he had his ledge “fill” when we were up at Dun Aengus on the Aran Islands!

Cool pictures of Ireland. I would like to get there one day. And I wouldn’t think laying at the edge of the cliff would be too scary – standing there might be though!
